Winemaker's Notes
Sonoma County's Alexander Valley is known for the exceptionally rich, supple and well-balanced Cabernet Sauvignon grapes grown there. Its somewhat warmer temperatures and heavily graveled bench lands make it an ideal growing environment for the Bordeaux-based variety. Most of the fruit for our Grand Archer Cabernet Sauvignon comes from this region; the 2000 vintage beautifully showcases the areas incredible terroir.
In the glass, this wine is dark ruby in color. Mouth-watering aromas of dark cherry, plum, cassis and hints of cedar and oak mingle with similar complex flavors in the mouth. Barrel aging in French and American oak imparts nuances of toffee, vanilla and oak to the long finish.
Chef's Suggestions
With its opulent fruit flavors, excellent balance and supple tannins, this wine can be enjoyed on its own, or with rich, flavorful foods such as beef stew, osso bucco, or an intense cheese such as Cambazola or Manchego. As an age-worthy wine, it can also be cellared for future enjoyment.
