Winemaker's Notes
Our 2001 La Rose is a ros wine made from a blend of Grenache Noir, Mourvdre, Syrah and a small amount of Viognier. Modeled after the famous Ctes-du-Rôhne wines of Southern France, it is produced using a winemaking technique called Saigne, which means to run off or bleed a certain amount of free-run juice form dark-skinned grapes that have just been crushed.
This wine should be enjoyed in its youth. With loads of fresh strawberry and raspberry fruit up front and crisp acidity in the finish, it makes an excellent spring and summer sipping wine. This ros blend is perfect for Valentines Day, Easter or any celebration in need of a fresh, bright easy-drinking wine. Its flexibility with food makes it all the more enjoyable. Pair it with burgers from the grill or pour it for an elegant Sunday brunch. Mostly, however, just drink it in moderation and enjoy! Only 122 cases were produced.
Vineyard
The grapes used in this wine are primarily Grenache Noir and Mourvdre from Schaefer Vineyards, one of our Sonoma Valley vineyard gems. The Syrah, which adds structure, and the Viognier, which lends wonderful fruit and honeysuckle aromas, are from our beloved Saralee's Vineyard in the Russian River Valley, the source of some of our finest fruit. This combination of vineyards, varieties and terroir has resulted in a wine with mouth-watering aromas, robust flavors and a bright, clean finish.
Fermentation & Aging
Stainless tank fermentation with no barrel aging or malolactic fermentation allows the wines true varietal characteristics to shine through.
