Winemaker's Notes
The 2005 Monte Rosso is a big, generous Cabernet with incredible depth and complexity. The color is appropriately dark. The bouquet is highly aromatic with notes of cassis, earth, sweet cherry, and toast. The extended oak aging adds rich, textural notes to the focused and lengthy finish.

Enjoy this wine on its own, or pair it with a range of menus. Try it with pan-roasted salmon, grilled rib-eye or grilled flank steak, or go for a more refined entrée such as rack of lamb or prime rib. With this remarkable wine, you can't go wrong.

The spectacular Monte Rosso Vineyard, set more than 1,000 feet above sea level at the southwestern end of the Mayacamas Mountain Range, was first planted in the 1880s. It was purchased by Louis M. Martini in 1938 and continues to produce legendary fruit from its rugged slopes. Of the 575 acres, 231 are planted to vines. The vineyard takes its name from the red soils composed of loam, volcanic ash, and iron deposits. Our Cabernet Sauvignon is made from a small block of vines originally planted in the 1950s, 60s and 70s. The wine offers insight into the soils and climate of this legendary vineyard.

Sonoma County's 2005 vintage ended a banner year. The season's spring weather pattern was a threatening cycle of rain, fortunately followed by sun, allowing the vines to successfully flower and set cluster. The summer months were relatively cool, yet provided a longer hang time that resulted in ideal ripening conditions.
