As is the case with our Reserve Chardonnay, individual lots of Alary Vineyards Chardonnay are fermented in 100% French oak and then guided through 100% malolactic fermentation. After nine months of fermentation and sur-lies aging, select lots are chosen and the final blend is returned to French oak barrels for up to an additional five months of aging.
In keeping with our non-interventional winemaking practices, we chose not to fine this wine, leaving it in as natural a state as possible.
About The Wine
Alary Vineyards has been one of our favorite sources of Chardonnay since 1987. Located off Westside Road in the Russian River Valley AVA, it is a 12-acre, hillside property surrounded by oaks and neighboring vineyards. It is cool and rocky, low-yielding, and planted to the Belle Terre, Dijon and Rued clones of Chardonnay. We have been bottling a small portion of Alary as a single-vineyard designate since 2000 and this is our eight bottling. As is the case with our Reserve Chardonnay, individual lots of Alary Vineyards Chardonnay are fermented in 100% French oak and then guided through 100% malolactic fermentation. Tasting Notes
Arrowood 2008 Alary Vineyards Chardonnay exhibits fine clarity in its lovely straw color. Nutty and toasted components in the nose give way to intense tropical notes on the palate. This is a full-flavor wine packed with nuances of pineapple, peach and melon. Its creamy and rich texture is balanced by bright, crisp acidity that takes you to a long rounded finish.Wine Details
